Culture in a Second Language Teaching week 4

Why is so important to know about culture when we are teaching a second language? well, maybe this question sounds easy to answer, but it is not. If we are teaching a second language, we should know about some cultures that we be able to explain the students where the language came from. What some idioms means. I think the most import thing it is because we need to be involved in the language.
In some cases is necessary that teachers travel to another country or countries to be familiar with different cultures; but sometime it is not possible, so teachers must look, learn, and teach the right information.
We can use different ways to teach culture, some of them are; "authentics material, proverbs, role play, culture capsules, students as cultural resources, ethnographic studies, literature, and film." (Elizabeth Peterson and Bronwyn Coltrane, Center for Applied Linguiestics, 2003.) I recommend using students as cultural resources because the students will be interesting to learn about culture which is around them.
In conclusion, culture should be the first thing that professor teach before a second language, but I do not mean teach holidays and food; also, about different meanings of the words in one culture to another.
